Lepus Rex BS: Liver and Onions--Just a thought . . . . (91* d) RE: BS: Liver and Onions--Just a thought . . . . 27 Jul 05

Off topicish, but since we're talking guts: I was at a Vietnamese/Chinese barbecue place in St.Paul, MN, last month, a place called Tai Hoa BBQ. I was picking up lunch for me and a friend, and I asked for two of their "combo" type meals, with pork, rice, and a side dish, to go. They sliced up the pork and put it in the container with the rice, and then asked what side dishes I'd like. They had the side dishes in metal trays behind a plexiglas window, and having no idea what any of them were, I asked. Intestines stuffed with green onions, a sort of intestine and vegetable...salad, and some other stuff. (and, off to the side: Chicken feet salad, which I want to try.) Everything contained intestines and stomachs, or both... except for a tray of what I learned were duck tongues. Neat! So, I ordered the intestine salad type thing for my friend, and the duck tonges for me.

The salad stuff was pretty good... The intestines were sliced and cooked, and very tasty. The main vegetable was something that tasted pickled, and I have no idea what it was. I'd get that some time.

Duck tongue, however, is the nastiest thing I've ever eaten. Cold, slimy, with a nauseating gelatinous texture. Oh, and there's a big ol' bone running through it. Not a pleasant thing to bite into. I couldn't finish them.

But I do recommend the restaurant. The pork is great, and they have a better side dish selection M-F. :)
