I remember my wise old Aunty Eilleen saying 'do you think we humans will be on Mother Earth forever' meaning we were part of a process of ongoing birth life and death that is everchanging. By the same token she also said, ' the earth needs humans as humans need the earth'. Space is a part of our ongoing human reality as it is part of this glorious Mother Earth. We humans are no more a problem on earth or in space than the ocean waves that kill or nurture. We are all part of everything. What we do with how we move around decides our survival doesn't it? Recognising problems of militarism, capitalism, racism, and all the horrors that exist including the shocking history of colinialism and post-colonialism, post feminism I love that humans are ever enquiring and ever seeking to expand knowledge and understand our relationship to the universe and beyond. Within these horrors that we can't ignore, there are the wonderful advances in medical science, and other issues of complex caring of our fellow humans that come from the same driving explorations. Isn't that the eternal question that enquiry/research seeks to explore: what is the meaning of us/life and everything? Yes, it is good that they are back safely and it is good that each time we fit ourselves as humans more easily into the universe which makes us eventually (hopefully) understand that we are more than our own backyard.
