Here's the version I learned from my late mother-in-law, who was born in 1902 and who was professional dancer and part of the "scene" in New York in the '20's and '30's I presume that "Paderewski" refers to Ignace Jan Paderewski, the Polish composer, pianist and diplomat. I have started teaching it to my sons, ages 9, 6 & 5 I plan on taking all the best lyrics from above that aren't in my version and add them to mine, so as to create an even longer, crazier "Lunatic's Lullaby." My boys will love it! ************* LUNATIC'S LULLABY Oh, I was born one night one morn' When the whistle went "boom, boom." I can fry a cake, I can bake a steak, When the mudpies are in bloom. If six and six is nine And ice comes from a mine, Then ol' Black Joe's an Eskimo "In the Good Old Summer Time." Oh, loop-the-loop In the noodle soup Just to give my socks a shine I'm a guilty judge, I stole some fudge. Three cheers for Auld Lang Sine I cannot tell a lie. I hocked a case of rye It on a branch Beneath the sea Above the bright, blue sky If Easter eggs could wash their legs And children could have ducks I'd rather have a lemon pie Than forty-seven bucks Way down in Barcelonia They spit into the phonia And that ain't no balonia. Paderewski blow your horn. "Toot, toot!"
