In the DVD, which has just come out and is also available from his site, he says that he thinks he made a rod for his own back but making a record which wasn't very good because he was trying to reflect the fashion of the time. So in the intervening three years or so he had to regroup and start again.
He also says that if you had told him then that he would be doing what he is doing now, that is playing a LOT of gigs and making records to a fairly small fan base, he'd have been happy with that. He doesn't miss the trappings of rock n roll, like a band, not least becAUse it is very expensive.
His last studio album Just Like There's Nothin To It is an absolute PEACH - everyone should own it but it just doesn't get promoted.
