guys, thanks for the start. I forgot I had posted this.....

Hokey Pokey as I know is not the New Zealand version. It was a paper wrapped version of say neopolitan.

I have not yet seen a good neopolitan recipe, has anyone got a tried and tested version.

weelittledrummer you and I have obviously similar family back grounds. What is/was the family name? In my extended family we had the Risi's (Rice's ices are the nicest.. - That was there catch phrase), Tomasso's (Leeds,Richmond surrey and Glasgow) and the ciccone's.
