Michael Collins was born in Clonakilty, which is about an hour from Cork. Cobh is an old harbour town, last place visited by the Titanic before she sank. Both are outside the city! We may have to rent a bus ;-)
It definitely is worth getting out of Cork, as the coast is very pretty. West Cork deserves at least a week.
