This is a unique opportunity to join the company of other Irish language enthusiasts for the first ever Irish Language Weekend in Maine, October 21-22-23. Cumann na Gaeilge I mBoston, the Irish Language Society of Boston in conjunction with the Maine Irish Heritage Center are coordinating the weekend activities. The Irish language will again be heard within the walls of the former Saint Dominic's Church now the lovely home of the popular Heritage Center as students and native speakers alike meet and celebrate various aspects of their Gaelic culture with

featured guests from Ireland Joe John Mac Iomaire and Jackai Mac Donncha.

Joe John Mac Iomaire won the Ui Riada Trophy for sean-nos singing in 1975 and 1977.He also won the Comortas Amhraniocht na Bhfear on two occasions. Joe is well known throughout Ireland and Europe for his gifted style of singing.

Jackai Mac Donncha is the author of "Gaineamh Seidte"

Shifting Sands
. He has won numerous awards in Ireland for his poetry and short stories.

Both men are from Cill Chiarain in Connemara and they will be joined by another native from the area Peggy Cloherty President of Cumann na Gaeilge as workshop presenters on Saturday from 11a.m to 4p.m.

The theme of the weekend is "Bi Linn ag caint naGaeilge"-Join us speaking Irish –your fluency doesn't matter . Beidh Failte Romhat! A welcome awaits you!

Weekend workshops and activities feature the following:

       SATURDAY 11a.m. to 4p.m.

Small group workshops on learning a brief dialogue or skit, reading or writing short stories in Irish, learning fun easy sing-along tunes

An Irish made film in Irish with English subtitles highlighting the life in the Gaeltacht of Connemara.



       SUNDAY   12p.m. to 3pm.

Ceili seisiun with Joe John Ridge from Ireland and local Portland singers and musicians

Cold buffet lunch served Saturday and Sunday

Admission each day is $5.oo. All proceeds to support the Heritage Center.
