Thanks, folks, lots of good advice and discussion here, as expected. I was kind of surprised this topic hasn't been covered earlier, but nothing came up on the search. Sounds like the consensus is positive. My "ideal" spot is on an outside wall, so I'd already ruled that out--even though it's protected from the sun and it doesn't freeze here, it still gets a mite chilly overnight (especially for somebody who's spent the last 11 years in Hawaii!). But I like the idea of putting up a board and attaching hangers to it; that only makes two holes in the wall. And I was a homeowner for long enough that I still remember how to find studs!
