But the stockpiles of Tamiflu are intended for a seasonal flu pandemic which is a completely different thing. And Tamiflu will at best only reduce illness by one day when the symptoms are already showing - it is a retardant, not a preventative. It's a leap in the dark to say that flu jabs will slow down bird flu if it mutates to a virus that can spread from human to human from seasonal flu as we don't know what the nature of that virus will be until it happens, hence not being able to produce a vaccine in advance. Flu jabs are the best defence against known forms of seasonal flu but by no means fully effective against unknown strains
