Hello,
The North Texas Irish Festival (www.ntif.org) will be coming to town in early March, and I'll have the opportunity to seriously beef up my skimpy collection of celtic music. However, I always feel overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of CDs available there; I never know what I should be looking for, so I thought I'd turn to this area for some suggestions.
I've got some of the Clancys and the Makems' recordings, as well as a smattering of Altan, Gaelic Storm, Connie Dover, Stan Rogers, a couple of Chieftains CDs, even a Pogues recording. I have some others, but that should give you an idea of the level of my familiarity with the music. I have quite a few recordings of local bands and renfaire bands as well.
What would you recommend as "must have" albums or artists? What am I missing? I'd hate to have to rely on my own uninformed opinion for selections, so please feel free to tell me about your personal favorites.
Thanks in advance!
Guy
