I am afraid that I have just received the sad news that my old playing partner John Westland died of a heart attack suddenly on Wednesday, 7th December 2005. Along with his other ongoing health problems John had been suffering from what was believed to be angina. He was well known in the Reading area and a regular member of several local folk clubs, entertaining his audiences with a multitude of instruments and some weird and original props, all of which he made himself. He was a talented singer and wrote some hilarious songs and parodies, a fitting vehicle for his wicked sense of humour. We performed together as "Half Cut and Dried" for several years but I was only one of several playing partners that John had over the years. He was also a good friend to others in times of need, as I know only too well. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The folk world has lost a great character.
