the song is also featured in the game "a bard's tale" for pc and playstation 2....the lyrics are as follows (in the game at least)

beer beer beer tiddily beer beer beer tiddilly
beer beer beer tiddily beer beer beer

a long time ago way back in history
when all there was to drink was nothin but cups of tea
along came a man by the name of charlie mopps
and he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hops

HEY!

he must have been an admiral a sultan or a king!
and to his praises we shall always sing
look what he has done for us he's filled us up with cheer
Lord bless charlie mopps
the man who invented beer

beer beer tiddily beer beer beer

The drunken rat the aiken drum the trowles pub as well
one thing you can be sure of
it's charlie's beer they sell
so all ye lads and lasses
at 11 o'clock ye stop
for 5 short seconds remember charlie mops
1....2....3....4....5!

HEY

he must have been an admiral a sultan or a king
and to his praises we shall always sing
look what he has done for us he's filled us up with cheer
lord bless charlie mops the man who invented

beer beer beer tiddilly beer beer beer

a barrel of malt
a bushel of hops
ya stir it around with a stick
the type of lubrication to make your engines tick
40 pints of wallop a day will keep away the quacks
it's only 8 pence hapenny and one and six in tax

he must have been an admiral a sultan or a king
and to his praises we shall always sing
look what he has done for us he's filled us up with cheer
lord bless charlie mopps the man who invented

beer beer beer tiddily beer beer beer tiddily
beer beer beer tiddily beer beer beer tiddilly
beer beer beer...

the lord bless charlie mopps!

i just want to know who ORIGINALLY wrote the song...i heard something about shakespeare??? It seems quite a popular song among the irish and i've heard quite a few different versions. If anyone can give me a link to a possible history of the song that would be great.
