Well, state motor vehicle laws do NOT necessarily carry across borders, Bert. Here's an example: my daughter just got a North Carolina learner's permit that allows her to drive during certain hours, and when a 'responsible licensed driver' is in the front seat with her. Now, she went to visit relatives in VA and NJ. Could she drive there on that permit? As a life lesson, I let her make the phone calls to the out-of-state DMV. Bet you could have heard the laughter from New Jersey without the phone.... But, better than if she had tried to drive in Jersey and *hope* they honored NC law. Dani
