well, my secret santa pressie has arrived from the sun-drenched sands of ..Batley kirklees West Yorkshire eee bah gum lad --now let's see... The name Batley is derived from Anglo-Saxon meaning valley or homestead of bats, and is recorded in the Domesday book as 'Bathelie'! .In Victorian times, Batley was the centre of the "shoddy trade" in which wool rags and clothes were recycled by reweaving them into blankets, carpets, uniforms. Batley and its neighbour Dewsbury are part of a special E.U. transformation zone!!!!! -what, they are to become part of Lancashire? Thank you secret S. I will open the wooden crate tomorrow... perchance a family of scarlet uniformed bats, standing upright??
