I don't believe many people who have travelled much would think the USA the greatest nation. I don't visit the USA very often because it is not one of my main destinations of choice, though I find that I have visited 14 of the States over the years (Vermont, California and some others in between). The two main downsides I have found are an overriding blandness (particularly in the cuisine!) and an almost constant feeling of being threatened. I can't think of any other country where I have felt the same threat (unless it was Libya in the bad old days when the "secret" police tracked me for 10 days). On the upside, I have usually enjoyed my visits and will no doubt be back, but I'm not in any particular hurry. cheers, Terry
