Haven't seen it-but my WIFE wants to see it for who-knows-why. Luckily we dont have any reaally decent movie theaters 'round here-the one multiplex we have is older before they put in the stadium seats and cushy things, so we don't "do" movies at the theater much. Anyways, I dunno that I wanna see it-not so much that it has an agenda, but I'm stubborn cause my wife is buggin' me about it. I'd probably rent it though as I hear the "sex" stuff is pretty limited and only like 40 seconds in the whole movie. This kinda reminds me of all the protesting that went on when "Last Temptation of Christ" with Willem Dafoe came out. All these right-wing Falwell type fundamentalists picketed theaters sayin' this 'n that about a movie they didn't even see--and what they said was WRONG (as in inaccurate). And bein' a decent church-going type myself, I wanted to see what all the hubub was about-so the wife and I WENT! It actually was a rather well done movie-although it took a fair amount of liberties with the Gospel accounts, etc.--but it wasn't worth all that protesting; now I think some of this same kinda stuff is going on with Brokeback Mt.-and they probably all are thrilled about it. So much for my excusis on negative publicity. I'm not much into "agendas" on either side of this fence. But getting back to this movie, as I understand it, it's more of a character study kinda deal than a "gay cowboy" movie. And I do tend to like Ang Lee's stuff--thought "Ice Storm" was really underrated, for instance. And "Crouching Tiger..." was off the wall with its cartoon-like violence. So-my bet is, as movies go, it's well-done. But if you have a problem with the cowboys/love thing--skip it.
