GUEST,Paul S Lyr Req: writing a pirate song for kids (13) Lyr Req: writing a pirate song for kids 13 Feb 06

Hey kids,

A couple months ago I started a thread asking for song suggestions to teach my son's beaver group (I know, I heard all the jokes last time!), and got some great suggestions. They were so great in fact, that the other leaders have put me in charge of all things musical -- I'm also the only 30-something male they know who isn't afraid to sing in public.

So we have an event coming up that the kids (aged 5 to 7) need to sing a pirate song for. I searched for pirate songs here and in google and didn't come up with much. Then I tried sailor songs and ended up with many in the "The Good Ship Venus" strain.

I decided to write my own, but was hoping to expedite the folk process and see if y'all could help me write some more verses than the two I've come up with. I used the melody of Pete Seeger's "A Hayseed Like Me".

Here's what I have so far:

My ship flies a black skull and crossbones
It sails on the shiny blue sea
My parrot, it sits on my shoulder
It's the life of a pirate for me.

The life of a pirate for me-ee-ee
The life of a pirate for me
My parrot, it sits on my shoulder
It's the life of a pirate for me.

An eye patch covers my left eye
My right eye, it can't hardly see
I lost my left leg in a battle
It's the life of a pirate for me

The life of a pirate for me-ee-ee
The life of a pirate for me
I lost my left leg in a battle
It's the life of a pirate for me

I even have actions for everything, but I'm at a loss for more lyrics.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Paul
