The cuckolded Lord Arnold (Donald, Arlin, etc.) in "Matty Groves" asks his wife, "who do you like better, little Matty Groves or me?". Ack! Why would you ask this question? Myself, I would really rather not know. I'd rather go on in blissful ignorance. Men whom I have asked say that guys just want to know. I don't get it. Anyway, in the song, the answer leads to Lord Arnold's rage and the murder of his wife. The question also occurs in "Gypsy Davey". Admittedly, it furthers the plot, but I request your help in understanding why ask?
