This is highly unlikely to be the version you have on cassette, but there is a bootleg (LP) of Gordon Lightfoot singing it. The record wsa released in 1979, but the recordings are from a live concert in 1965. Gordon sings it in the style of Ian Tyson, who taught it to him. Another little bit of folk music trivia. Lightfoot fans generally love his version, and he has done it on and off in concert as recently as the mid-1990s.
