Yes, my Dad is devoted to Jean Shepherd full stop: such an excellent and relatable narrative voice, conspicuously lacking what I confess to feeling is the gobshite folksiness of Garrison Keillor. What Spaw says about the "heartland" is so dead-on; I was born & raiesd in Massachusetts, but my father grew up outside Chicago during & after the Depression years, and married my mom (a British GI bride met whilst he was stationed in England, how much more cinematic can you get??) in the late '40s, so the whole aesthetic of that film is very resonant for them. A brilliant representation of a very particular time and place, and of what it was to be American in the mid 20th century. ~D
