AIR -- 'Battle Hymn of the Republic

(D7)      G
He stands up for Alabama, he stands up for Oregon
7         C                               G               D7
He stands up for all the fifty states that make this nation one
          G             Em             B7          Em
He'll restore our constitution he'll restore our liberty
    Am         G    D7 G (D7)
May truth and right prevail

G                                    7 C                               G    (D7)
Won't you stand up with George Wallace, won't you stand up with George Wallace
G          Em                  B7 Em       Am      G   D7 G
Won't you stand up with George Wallace, so all men can stay free

He stands up for God and Country against all satanic foes
Who defile our constitution and create our nation's woes
He'll restore our nation's honor he'll restore our nation's pride
So freedom can prevail

He stands up for law and order the policeman on his beat
He will make it safe to once again walk proudly on your street
He'll uproot the seeds of treason, he'll restore our courts of law
So justice can prevail

He stands up for prayer at public school if children want to pray
For wisdom, courage, strength, and love to help them through the day
He will rout the force of darkness he'll uphold the God of Right
May truth and right prevail

He stands up for victory o'er our foes who kill our countrymen
In endless wars our leaders say they dont intend to win
He will carry through to the victory with god's help and with ours
So all men are made free

[George Wallace, Governor of Alabama ran for the democratic party nomination for president, originally having a reasonable chance of winning given his total support in the South and in key northern states, before being shot and wounded by a madman. Strangely this 'Yankee' tune, 'John Brown's Body' was what this campaign song was set to.]
