(March 27, 2006)—Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexia for Country Hall Of Fame member and veteran country music songwriter Cindy Walker. Walker died Thursday night at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. She was 87. Walker, who penned such country standards as "Cherokee Maiden," "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" and "Warm, Red Wine" was born on July 20, 1918 in Mart, but spent most of her life in Mexia. In 1941, Decca signed her to a five-year contract and Texas swing artist Bob Wills recorded four of her songs that year. Her songs were recorded by a variety of country and pop artists and over 400 of her songs made the charts. http://www.kwtx.com/news/headlines/2525341.html 'I was just walking out the door' was a favorite of mine.
