I use music software, but in a Mac environment, so I don't know too much about the XP environment, but I had a couple thoughts/questions: First, it sounds like they installed a new soundcard--did they install all the software that goes with it, as well? (Also, am very curious to know why they would have needed to give you a new soundcard) Next question is, have you re-installed all your old music software? If you have, and it doesn't work, then you pretty much have to start from scratch, getting the software and building your "environment" up for the new Operating System--this may take a while, and will likely cost a bit of money and learning time(chalk it up to "Future Shock") Check the Homepage for the soundcard that you have--they should have a lot of the information you need to get the thing up and running again--incuding info about compatible software(and possibly even offer the software--a lot of new music hardware comes bundled with software these days) You have my profound sympathy--I have been fooling around with this stuff for years and have periodic problems due to operating system upgrades--one of my favorite programs stopped working when I did an incremental system upgrade--I was forced to buy a new version, which left off some features that I'd relied on, and had new features that had to be learned before I could even use it again--so it goes.....
