This is a great song for camps. Here are the chords I use (the lyrics I know are just slightly different):
chorus: C (Her-) G (Worm) Am (All) Em (bro-)
F (nev-) G (up) C (love) [to G first time through and repeat]
Verses: C (Her-) G (squirm-) C (way) G (home)
C (girl-) G (Sal-) F (left) G (-lone)
F (turned) G (-fly)
F (flew) G (sky)
I wish I knew the writer of this song so I could credit him/her. The camp I was working at picked the song up at a camping conference in Chicago, and I think the writer was there teaching it...but I hadn't made it to the conference that year (1999 maybe?). When we would perform it with the kids, we'd throw in a little drama to the final chorus, pausing after the last 'up' and shouting 'No!' and repeating 'he never gave up (NO!)' a couple times. I'm guessing even that came from the conference and the original writer. Great fun.
