'Crow' is the generic term for all members of the genus corvidae Hence the name 'corbie,' which they are still called in parts of the Borders and Northumbria. The Carrion Crow is usually the one meant by 'crow' in Britain. I believe the Hooded Crow may be commoner in Ireland. Most 'crows' in North America are the American Crow but here on Vancouver Island our 'crow' is the Northwestern Crow.
