For all who are not for big funerals and glitzy church send offs , I suggest looking up the Neptune Society. I am an oldie and have already lived many years more than my parents or siblings. The thought of an expensive funeral with all the flowers and pomp and circumstance that go with it simply appalled me. My spouse and I recently signed up for the burial at sea option. We had the home presentation and pondered it for three days prior to signing up. We still had thirty days to change our minds and payment is 25.00/month. Total for two was 3898.00. Much better than a 6000.00 contribution to some funeral director's coffers. We both carry a plastic ID card very prominently displayed in our wallets which has instructions and two telephone numbers should we be caught away from home. All in all, a very sensible and satisfying option for the two of us.
