As a Brit raised in America from the age of 4, but in a vary British household and with frequent trips "accross the pond", it does my heart good to hear all these comments! I often used to think I was being raised somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, I was so torn. I was often acting as translator in my home, since my Mum refused to change her speech/habits regardless of the fact that she lived in America (for over 25 years now), and I would frequestly have to explain things she said/did to guests. One thing I was always struck by though, there are as many or more regional variations to speech/culture in England as there are in America, and a lot less area for them to occur in! -Blackvelvet
