Woohoo!! What a great thread. From pianos to opera et all. I'm not seriously suggest that amplification be banned but I think that real acoustic performance is becoming an endangered species. It is obvious that there is a limit on how large an audience can enjoy listening to a performance "sans yamaha". Albert Hall or Carnegie...no problem...I'd give it a go! Wembley Stadium? No probably not.... From my own experience as an audience member I have had heard many more performances spoiled by excessive amplification than by lack of decibels. It is much easier to shush idiots in the audience than to influence a power crazed insensitive new age sound person.
