I'm with Churchill - Pigs have by far the best personality for a pet - not as dimly dependent as dogs nor as superior as cats - unfortunately no matter how clean their personal habits they do still STINK and they can't catch vermin...
Far too many people believe themselves qualified to own a dog - there is nothing more tragic than the sight of a frustrated Border Collie which spends its life sticking its head through the cat flap to bark at passers by and take chunks out of the postman - at least cats don't turn psychotic through lack of attention and excercise - although some appear to be born that way.
Remember - if your cat was bigger than you, you would be its breakfast...
