Peter the Painter is said to have been so nicknamed because he was an artist who painted scenery for Anarchist plays. Research in the 1990s suggested that. if he ever was at Sydney Street. he escaped ans made it to Russia. He is reputed to have been a Soviet artist called Gederts Eliass who died in the USSR about 1952
