A well-known song in Connemara (West of Ireland) The singer Seosamh Ó hÉanaí is the main source I used with verse 4 (20 years away from home) from Peadar Ó Ceannabháin. It is said that Seosamh Ó hÉanaí gave a version to 'The Dubliners' which they recorded as 'Seven Drunken Nights'. See vinyl record on the 'Topic' label called 'Joe Heaney, Irish Traditional Songs in Gaelic and English' publ. 1963 No. 12T 91. On this record, Joe Heaney (= Seosamh Ó hÉanaí) not only sings the song but also tells a lovely folk tale which sets the song in context. Get it ......and enjoy it. Superb singing. Go n-éirí leat.
