Sometimes other fiddlers will put Cape Breton music down a bit simply because they can't play it. Even the great Don Messer was not able to play the Cape Breton style. Cec MacEachern did a much better job on it on the old Messer show. It is very exact in timing and the bowing is intricate. It came mostly from Gaelic Scotland and has been preserved here. The music in Scotland has changed and is no longer the same, but some there are adopting more of a Cape Breton style.
