It was the same grassroots Democratic party loyalists who put Joe Lieberman in office, who yesterday voted him out.

Actually, it was the Republican party that put Lieberman in the Senate, by tossing their own guy out the window. The RW was mad at then-Sen. Lowell Weicker for his apostasy in condemning Nixon (and for his suspected lib'rul tendencies), and they refused him support when Lieberman challenged him in 1988. The Republicans deserted Wiecker in droves (and there's even some noises that some conservatives actually went to bat for Lieberman back then).

Don't give me that "grassroots" stuff. FWIW, I'm as liberal as you can get, and I liked Weicker more than Lieberman even back in 1988.
