"And what kind of a name is "Eppie"? " The name Eppie is a diminutive of the biblical name Hepzibah, it was used by George Eliot in her novel Silas Marner. I think this is a great ballad, and have sung it for many years, though the best rendering I have ever heard is Sylvia Barnes' version. If you ever get the chance to hear this wonderful scottish singer do go along; her version of Prince Heathen will have you in tears.
