(Warning: thread drift ahead). Re: Davey Stewart's accompaniment. There are other examples of "very strange chording" in accompaniment. One of the more remarkable to my ear is Donald Davidson's second-position chording on diatonic harmonica with The Inverness Gathering - check it out:
