Some songs, of course, become traditional "despite themselves" i.e. when it is most unlikely that the writer expected/wanted it to happen. I was reminded of this at the weekend when again hearing a great traditional singer called Luke Cheevers (and believe me, they don't come more traditional!)sing Shane McGowans "Sally McEralane" (sp.?)in a perfectly traditional way. The same has happened to "Fairy Tale of New York", incidentally. I'm not knoocking it, BTW - I think it's great when it happens, but it IS exceptional. Regards
