Re: safe travel into New York My friend just had a dramatic experience. Her brother-in-law strongly opposed having his daughter apply to colleges in "sinful dangerous New York City," but he agreed to come visit. After they showed him around, and showed him a recent survey saying that New Yorkers are more courteous & kinder than people in other big cities, he actually took the subway alone with his daughter. What do you know? Every time he looked at his map, someone asked whether he needed help. No one was hostile or unpleasant. He decided NYC was not so bad!
