Ah, but how many great artists were born in 2006 - and what pleasure awaits us and our children when they discover their talents? Let's be optimistic! And, from pdq's list above, just think of the legacy it represents - all of them lucky enought to die at a time when their works can live on. How many countless generations of bards, storytellers, singers and musicians lie behind us, unknown, unmourned and yet to whom we owe an immeasurable debt? So, on this New Year's Day, here's a glass raised to those old friends Trad and Anon. Wassail!
