Ervine was very fortunate to meet Gusty Spence while in Long Kesh. The mark for both of them is not what they were, but how far they had come. Evolution of one's political views, in a direction at odds with the herd mentality, is never an easy task. Ervine seems to have been coinsidered a good representative for his constinuents, as well as for the broader classification of working class protestantism. I believe history will speak kindly of him.
