Yes you would think so wouldn't you. Today I downloaded all the updates that i have been ignoring, seven of them. It hasn't solved the problem, still can not play the cd rom, tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, no luck.

I was running into the validation problems when trying to get the latest directx 9 - but I have managed to find out that I have that anyway now.

I am giving up. But thanks for the input.
