You can no more apologise for someone who lived 200 years ago than you can take a dump for them - an apology can only come from the person who has done wrong.

Yes - remember the Wilberforce anniversary by all means. It is very important to educate people as to the horrors of what did occur and not to shove this issue under the societys carpet.

Even more important however, is to bring right to the fore, the modern day, but no less real, human trafficking and slavery that continues in our society today. For whatever reason, it appears to me that both politicians and the police turn a blind eye to this issue or at the very least, fail to fund or initiate action.

We can't change the past but we can, if we have the will, act now to change the future.

What we should all do, is apologise to the sex slaves and migrant workers in our own communities for not bringing pressure to bear on the authorities to take meaningful action to help them in their plight.
