Maxine BS: Southern Ireland traditional music bars (8) BS: Southern Ireland traditional music bars 01 Apr 07

Hi all
We are recently back from a fantastic few days in Killarney, County Kerry. I'm sure we did many of the usual tourist sites, The Ring of Kerry, Dingle Penninsula etc and all I can tell you is that if you haven't been you must - what a country. Scenery spectacular, people wonderful, Guinness a must and the bars - well 'addictive' (or perhaps that's the Guinness!) On the plane a fella we met said that Killarney was lovely but almost staged to be typically "twee" to please the American tourist. I don't know about that, we are typical Brits and we enjoyed every second! We spent an evening at the Killarney Grand and the following two in Danny Manns - both fantastic with live traditional music well - worth the journey. Danny Manns does fab food too.

But enough of that, what I'm asking of you all is to pick your brains of all things Irish. Well, perhaps not all things but certainly all things musically Irish. It's my 40th in May, we'd love to go back to Ireland but would like to try somewhere else this time. Can any of you give suggestions for somewhere suitable - must have traditional live music, must be easily accessible (ie guest houses/hotels within walking/staggering distance of town) must have fantastic scenery - seems that's a given for Southern Ireland - and just a generally nice place to be. We wondered about Limerick or Tipperary - yes, I know it's a long way - but not sure what's actually there???

So, any ideas gratefully received.............

Thank you in advance
Maxine
