WPAQ Radio,in Mt.Airy,N.C.,will be broadcasting daily on the INTERNET,

beginning this THURSDAY at 1:00PM,EDT.

The announcement was made by Kelly Epperson, owner and general manager of the station today!(monday april 2nd)

WPAQ has been on the air since 1948 and has been a supporter of the old-time,blue grass and southern gospel music, since it's first broadcast over 45 years ago!

Thursday is the birthday of the late Ralph Epperson, the former owner who actually put the station on the air and has been instrumental in keeping that format all these years!

Mr.Epperson passed away a few months ago and his son Kelly Epperson ,now operates the station with very little,if any change in the operation!

WPAQ operates at 740 on the AM dial and is a 10,000 watt operation!

The station signs on at sunrise each day and signs off at sunset, under FCC rules!

According to Kelly, the station will broadcast each day on the internet fom sunrise to sunset,

On occasions ,the station will stay on the air after sunset to broadcast some of the local fiddler's conventions, such as the Mt.Airy fiddler's convention and the GALAX fiddler's convention live from GALAX,VIRGINIA!

A special SIGN ON THE INTERNET ceremony will take place Thursday,April 5,at the studio in MT.Airy at 1:00PM,EDT.

A local band featuring old time fiddle player Benton Flippen, will perform live from the studio.

Benton Flippen was one of the first live performers on WPAQ,when it first signed on the air!

Local bands were encouraged to come and play at the station to help the owner check out the signal in different locations throught the area!
