Every time I hear this song I learn new verses. I believe it was written by Sam Chatmon (who claimed to be the father of 60 children) and the Mississippi Sheiks back in the 20's. Here's the version I do. I'M SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD (Chatmon) Was in the spring, one sunny day My sweetheart left me, Lord she went away CHORUS: But now she's gone, gone, gone, and I don't worry Cause I'm sitting on top of the world You don't like my peaches, don't shake my tree Get out of my orchard, let my peaches be CHORUS You know she called me up, down in El Paso Said come back daddy, o I need you so CHORUS Don't you run here cryin, holdin out your hand Gonna get me a woman, same way you got your man CHORUS Going down to the station, out in the yard Gonna catch me a freight train, life done got hard CHORUS Look for good versions of this song by Mississippi Sheiks, Taj Mahal, and Doc Watson.
Good luck, Chet W.
