I saw Phil once during the summer of 1967 at the former Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. As I was quite young, my parents took me to the concert but I'm sure they didn't realize what they were in for (they DIDN'T let me attend the Stony Brook show later that year). I remember enjoying Phil's performance until my father couldn't take his politics/vulgarities any longer and dragged me up the aisle and out the door before the show was over. One observation has stuck with me all these years -- Phil appeared quite dirty and disheveled that evening. He didn't seem drunk, although I don't know that I'd have recognized it as such back then. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to see him perform at all. The news about his suicide was devastating. 'Ray
