Today I managed to slam my right index finger in a heavy fire door. I do wish I hadn't. I've had it in ice for 5 hours. Half the nail has turned black and on the same black half there is a small hole in the nail where something on the edge of the door must has bored through the nail to the flesh. Needless to say, it hurts. I don't know how much chance there is of losing my nail but, of course, I want to prevent this happening if this is a possibility. I have now stopped packing it with ice. Does anyone, please please please, have any wisdom on what I should do, or have I done everything I can with the ice? Yours in hope, Ian cookieless
