Looking at a number of threads, there seems to be a definite pattern to the way that they begin, usually slowly, then peak, dip down into middle age, sometimes experience a renewal in later life and finally drift off into obscurity. The life cycle obviously varies according to the subject i.e. how contentious, personal or interesting it is. Could this be a good subject for post-grad research for a student of sociology or something?
