Greetings! I just came upon this thread while googling "Rocks of Bawn". Personally, I became familiar with the song via Arcady's recording, and I too was interested in the meaning. According to this website, the Rocks of Bawn were a symbol of the labour and workaday toil of the Irish: http://www.mustrad.org.uk/vop/655.htm (He seems to know what he's talking about, but I think that it's open to interpretation.)
