November 16-18 you should definitely come to Eisteddfod-NY, a whole weekend of traditional music with performers from Jean Ritchie to the Karelian Ensemble (Russo-Finnish border tradition) plus an open mike. See www.eisteddfod-ny.org. This is put on by the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club/Folk Music Society of New York. It is convenient to the subway and highway, and is in a neighborhood with amazing ethnic restaurants. Free admission for responsible volunteers. The Pinewoods Club is trying to provide housing for volunteers from out of town.
A week earlier the World Music Institute is putting on the Carolina Chocolate Drops at Symphony Space, and I hear that they are a terrific group of young old-time musicians.
