I was listening to Lowlands by Jean Redpath and Abby Newton and fine it is too! However,I want to defend "Mr McColl from the base charge by Bryn Pugh that he damaged the folk revival. What absurd tosh! Ewan McColl was a towering figure in the folk world as a writer, collector and singer of traditional material. He also encouraged young and talented singers and musicians around him.The Radio Ballads were landmark recordings and many of his own songs have passed into the tradition.I am thinking of such songs as Dirty Old Town ,the Manchester Rambler and The Terror Time. albert
